Cissy Gu is Implementation Manager, ASB Bank

We all agree the squiggly line connecting home life and careers is anything but straight-forward. How do you approach this?  Cissy Gu is Implementation Manager at ASB Bank (www.asb.co.nz). Cissy notes that especially for women, from her own experience, we can be quite harsh in terms of what we want to achieve. Partially this is to do with the impact of social media. We look at those beautiful photos from Instagram, from Facebook; it seems to be this is the beautiful life that we need to portray to the world, or this is the standard if you are a great mum, or these are the other things you need to do. Some of the practices that Cissy is learning and developing to help cope includes just not worrying about these things. Cissy says be kind to yourself and look at things you can do. And be clear on how you define success. She says this helps me to build resilience, because if the expectation is not as high as she thought before, it just becomes easier. I just focus on the things that I can do, and focus on doing these really really well. And also allow time for things that really matter to herself, including allowing time for indulging herself.    So now that school holidays have just finished, how will you be approaching that squiggly line?
